Boston Scientific Cardiac Rhythm Management
A pioneer in developing innovative technologies for cardiac rhythm management, Boston Scientific CRM (formerly Guidant) was first to introduce the automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator, a device that restores a normal heartbeat for patients with abnormally fast and life-threatening heart rhythms that can lead to sudden cardiac death.
The company has also sponsored several landmark clinical trials. The knowledge gained from these trials was used to develop the first cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) for the treatment of heart failure. Heart failure is a gradual weakening of the heart muscle and is a life-threatening condition that affects more than 20 million people worldwide.
The company, long known for innovation, will continue to research, design and manufacture these lifesaving technologies for patients worldwide. All of us at Boston Scientific are deeply aware that every device we "touch" will be implanted in someone's family member or friend -- maybe even our own. And we know that our products will contribute to extending and improving that person's life. That, more than anything, keeps our commitment to patient safety and well-being foremost in our minds.
